Escape by mountain bike and explore the Lac Blanc massif and the Kaysersberg Valley with its uniquely varied countryside.

Level : The routes are suitable for anyone in reasonable physical condition. Possible all the year round.

Equipment needed : You can rent bikes locally in advance if necessary. Bring your bike gear, rain protection, small back pack for daily needs.

Sample itinerary : Planned around dates convenient to you (all the year round) subject to availability at the hotels. The order of stages may be modified - this will be notified on arrival.

Day 1 :
Welcome at the Bonhomme in the late afternoon. Time to explore this charming village overhanging the Alsatian vineyards. Provision of rented bikes. Maybe time for a short ride.
Day 2 : Circular route (25km; 340m change in level) via l'étang du Devin - the soothsayer's pool -and the Col (pass) des Bagenelles.
Day 3 : Route (26km; 445m change in level) from the Bonhomme to Orbey via la Tête des Faux (1220 m altitude) and the Col du Calvaire (1145m).
Day 4 : Route 'sportif' (40km; 995m change in level) from the meadows of Orbey via the Creux d'argent - silver hollow; to the impressive Lac Blanc, surrounded by glacial cliffs and dominated by the mysterious 'Hans' rock; the Linge, haunting World War I battle ground; and the feudal 11th century castle of the Honeck. 'pays Welche', the most extensive mountain village in France.

Day 4 :
Route 'exploration' (40km; 450m change in level) from the Orbey to Kaysersberg or Kientzheim passing the Abbey of Pairis and Trois Epis (ears of corn), site of pilgrimage since the 15th century, and the mediaeval Wineck castle.
Day 5 : Discover the Alsace vineyard and plain (45km; 200m change in level) - a circular route round the pearls of this wine producing region: Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr, Kientzheim or Kaysersberg.
Day 6 : Leave after breakfast.

2008 tariffs : €530 per person for double room with bath/shower and wc (€650 single occupancy, €495 triple occupancy). Bike hire is extra.
