Cycling tour

5-DAY ALSACE DISCOVERY TOUR

Villages, vineyards and authentic Alsatian heritage

Easy. Possible wiht ordinary bike or electric bike.

Cycling time

30 to 64 km per stage. 200 m of made uneven.

Dates

Arrival possible every day of the week and weekend from 2 April to 15 November. Outside these dates and for long weekends with public holidays, please contact us beforehand to ensure availability.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

Rain protection, small back pack for your daily needs, bicycle (bike rental or bike with electric assistance, possible on request, payment on site directly at the bike rental company), reusable water bottle and cutlery.

ITINERARY

Planned according to your imperatives of arrival dates you (at any time of the year) subject to availability in the hotels. In all cases the organisers will contact you before your arrival to confirm your choices.

Day 1 – KAYSERSBERG
Arrival in Kaysersberg, one of Alsace’s most picturesque medieval towns, beautifully dominated by the remains of its impressive imperial castle. Stroll through its charming cobbled streets, lined with traditional half-timbered houses and historic monuments, and discover the authentic atmosphere of this remarkable town. Kaysersberg is also the birthplace of Dr. Albert Schweitzer, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952.
 
Day 2 – THE ALSATIAN WINE ROUTE
Today, you take quiet country roads winding gently through the vineyards, discovering some of Alsace’s most beautiful and characteristic villages. You visit Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé and Bergheim, true gems of traditional Alsatian architecture, where history and wine-growing traditions have been beautifully preserved.
Your journey continues to Kientzheim, a charming and historic wine-growing village surrounded by impressive 15th-century fortified walls.
 
Day 3 – VINEYARDS & THE MUNSTER VALLEY
You cross the renowned vineyards of Kaefferkopf, Sommerberg and Brand, all classified as Grand Cru, before heading towards Munster, the gateway to the neighbouring valley. Here, the landscape changes gradually, revealing a peaceful combination of vineyards, rolling countryside and mountain scenery.
You then stop in Niedermorschwihr, a delightful little wine-growing village nestled among the vineyards and first mentioned under the name “Morswilre” as early as 1148. The village is particularly famous for its remarkable church bell tower, topped by a rare and striking twisted roof, dating back to the 12th century.
 
Day 4 – THE ALSACE PLAIN & THE RIED
Your route takes us away from the vineyards and through forests, fields and fertile farmland, offering a wonderful introduction to the landscapes of the Alsace Plain and the Ried, a unique wetland region shaped by the Rhine and its tributaries.
You pass through Illhaeusern, a former fishing village with a rich riverside heritage, before continuing to Guémar, renowned for its traditional tobacco drying barns, a reminder of the region’s agricultural past.
We conclude our journey back in Kaysersberg.
 
Day 5 – DEPARTURE
After breakfast, the tour comes to an end.
