5. Liability and risks

Participants are responsible for their own safety and behaviour during the stay. Horizons d’Alsace cannot substitute for the individual responsibility of each participant.
Acting as a tour operator, Horizons d’Alsace selects various service providers and cannot be held responsible in place of them; each provider retains its own liability.
Self-guided hikes (on foot, by bike, snowshoes or mountain bike) are tours sold without a guide. The package includes an itinerary description and a map or area plan. Self-guided hikes therefore require adequate knowledge of map reading and orientation, particularly in mountain areas. Each participant must comply with safety rules and follow the advice provided in the route guide. Horizons d’Alsace cannot be held liable for accidents resulting from a participant’s imprudence, misinterpretation of the description, map-reading errors, or changes to trail markings on site.
Self-guided hiking implies acceptance of a risk, however minimal, which may result in particular from changes in natural elements along the itinerary.
Consequently, each participant agrees to accept this risk and not to hold Horizons d’Alsace or the various service providers liable for any accidents or incidents that may occur. This also applies to beneficiaries and family members.
Participants are advised to take out personal insurance covering accidents, civil liability and repatriation.
